Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 7, 2026
Duo Moment ("Moment", "we", "our", or "us") operates the Duo Moment mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding your data.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide:
- Phone number — Used solely for account verification via SMS. We do not use your phone number for marketing or share it with other users.
- Display name — Your chosen name visible to friends in the app.
- Profile information — Optional nickname, bio, and avatar color you set in your profile.
Information collected automatically:
- Photos — Photos you capture during Moment sessions are stored on your device and synced to our servers so they appear in the shared feed. Photos are visible to Moment participants and their friends within the app.
- Location — If you grant location permission, we tag Moments with the location name and approximate coordinates where they were captured. Location is visible to Moment participants and their friends within the app. You can deny location permission and the app will function normally without it.
- Diagnostic data — We collect crash logs and performance diagnostics to monitor and improve app stability. This data may be linked to an internal user ID (not your phone number or display name).
Information we do NOT collect:
- We do not access your contacts or address book
- We do not bulk-access your photo library. We only access individual photos you explicitly select (for example, choosing a profile photo).
- We do not collect browsing history, analytics, or advertising identifiers
- We do not use cookies or tracking pixels
2. How We Use Your Information
- Phone number: Account creation and verification only
- Display name and profile: Shown to your friends within the app
- Photos: Stored and shared with Moment participants via our servers
- Location: Attached to Moments you capture (optional)
- Diagnostic data and internal user ID: Investigating crashes, monitoring performance, and improving reliability
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes.
3. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate the App:
- Twilio — SMS delivery for phone verification codes. Twilio receives your phone number solely to deliver the verification SMS. See Twilio's Privacy Policy.
- Sentry — Crash reporting and performance monitoring. Diagnostic data may include an internal user ID. See Sentry's Privacy Policy.
- Cloud storage provider — Photos are stored on cloud servers with access limited to users of the app.
We do not use any advertising networks or tracking services. Diagnostic data is used only for app functionality, reliability, and debugging.
4. Data Storage and Security
- Your data is stored on secured servers with encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS)
- Photos are stored in cloud object storage
- Authentication uses industry-standard JWT tokens
- Passwords are never collected — authentication is phone-number-based
5. Data Retention
- Your account data is retained as long as your account is active
- When you delete your account, your data is removed from our systems, including:
- Your user profile (display name, phone number, nickname, bio)
- Photos you uploaded
- Your friend connections
- Shared Moments you participated in may remain visible to other participants. Storage cleanup may complete asynchronously.
6. Your Rights and Choices
- Delete your account: You can delete your account at any time from Settings within the app. This removes your profile and uploaded data from our systems.
- Location permission: You can grant or revoke location access in your device settings at any time. The app works without location permission.
- Data access: Contact us to request a copy of your data.
7. Children's Privacy
Moment is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Peer-to-Peer Data Transfer
During a Moment session, photos are transferred directly between nearby devices using Apple's peer-to-peer networking (MultipeerConnectivity). This transfer happens over your local network — photos travel directly between devices without passing through our servers during capture. Internet connectivity is not required for the core photo capture and transfer experience.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the App or by updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
